We all know Donald Trump tweets whatever he wants, whenever he wants; but this time his target was none other than three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep.
As Streep accepted the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes this past Sunday, without even uttering the President-elect's name she criticized him for mocking a disabled reporter telling the crowd:"when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."
On Monday morning, Trump took to Twitter calling Streep 'one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood' despite the fact that he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 she's an "excellent" and "fine actress."
Many A-list celebrities such as George Clooney, Ben Affleck, and Barbara Streisand came quick to Streep's defense.
People Magazine reports Clooney blasted Trump for his poor choice or words at a reception hosted by The Clooney Foundation for Justice on Monday night stating: "I've always said tha about Meryl," Clooney told People sarcastically. "She's maybe the most overrated actress of all-time. She and I worked together on Fantastic Mr. Fox as husband and wife and I will you even as a fox, a female fox, she's overrated....Aren't you supposed to be running the country?" he asked Trump rhetorically.'
Ben Affleck also called out Trump on Jimmy Kimmel Kimmel Live! last night. The Live by Night star told the late-night host: "If there's on thing truly in the world we know is not true, it's that Meryl Streep is overrated," he said. "If you look up in the encyclopedia 'great actress,' there's a picture of Meryl Streep."
The comments Trump made even had Barbara Streisand express her disgust for the man on Hardball With Chris Matthews: "I thought that she said what she said beautifully," adding that the President-elect "has the need to talk back and insult anybody who doesn't agree with him. And that's pretty disgraceful."
The Funny Girl actress commented on Trump's high praise for Streep in the past stating: "That's why you can't trust anything he says," Streisand replied, "because if you get on his wrong side, you know he will blast you negatively."
Many other stars showed their support for Meryl Streep on Twitter and tweeted their own responses to Trump.
Meryl Streep has yet to comment on Donal Trump's tweets.
