Natalie Portman is an award-winning actress whose net worth is approximately $54 million dollars, but what if you found out that she has not been paid equally to her male co-stars in past films?
In a recent interview with Marie Claire UK, the Jackie star revealed Ashton Kutcher was paid three times more than her in the 2011 rom-com No Strings Attached. Portman told the publication that she was aware of the difference in salaries but was a bit apprehensive to voice her opinion.
"Ashton Kutcher was paid three times as much as me on No Strings Attached. I knew and went along with it because there's this thing with 'quotes' in Hollywood. Your quote is the highest you've ever been paid. His quote was three times higher than mine so they said he should get paid three times more," she told the magazine's February issue. "I was pissed as I should have been! I mean, we get paid a lot, so it's hard to complain. But the disparity is crazy. I remember talking to Ruth Bader Ginsburg about it. Compared to men, in most professions, women make 80 cents to the dollar. In Hollywood, we are making 30 cents to the dollar. "
This is not the first time an A-list Hollywood actress discussed gender and pay inequality. Jennifer Lawrence spoke about the gender wage gap in a an Lenny Letter essay in October 2015 when the Passengers star did not received the same amount of money as her co-stars Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner in American Hustle.
